Dallas-based nonprofit Against The Grain Productions (ATG) is pleased to announce that applications for its annual scholarship program is available now through May 31. More than $20,000 in funds will be awarded to deserving Asian American students who will be attending accredited U.S. universities during the 2016-2017 school year.

“Since 2011, we have proudly awarded $30,000 to 30 Asian American students who demonstrate what it means to ‘Go Against The Grain’ in their leadership, academic focus and career aspirations,” said ATG President and Co-Founder Tammy Nguyen Lee. “The past five years have given us a wonderful opportunity to see the impact that these scholarships have made on the lives of our winners as they follow their dreams despite the pressures they may feel to pursue traditional careers.”

In addition to their ATG Artistic Scholarship and Groundbreaker Leadership Scholarship, ATG awarded their first two #LiveLikeLyly Memorial Scholarships to students majoring in graphic design or fashion. This year, they are proud to offer the Lily Pabilona Emerging Entrepreneur Scholarship, two $5,000 awards, to provide financial and personal support to students who are pursuing yet another non-traditional career path for Asian Americans.

A panel of judges selects scholarship finalists and winners based on the combined strength of their GPA, community involvement and leadership, personal essay, portfolio and/or video submission and personal interview, representing the spirit of Against The Grain Productions.

“We are excited to grow our scholarship fund and are so grateful to our donors for their specific contributions,” said Nguyen Lee. “We encourage Asian American students across the country to apply to our scholarships and to also take advantage of the support and encouragement we provide.”
